Dentures in Belmont & South San Francisco, CA

A denture is used to help replace multiple missing teeth. It can be partial (restoring some but not all teeth) or complete (restoring all the natural teeth). Dental implants are sometimes also used to help support a full or partial denture, thereby rendering superior stability and jawbone health.

How are Dentures Helpful?

The loss of natural teeth affects oral functionality. Patients losing their teeth due to health issues, aging, or accidents also feel embarrassed while socializing besides performing their day-to-day activities. A denture restores your ability to bite and chew food and with your natural phonetics as well. It also ensures that your facial structure retains its normal shape.

Why Should You Go for Dentures?

Dentures are helpful for patients coping with the following conditions: -

Loss of all teeth

In this case, a complete denture is used to replace the natural teeth. Losing all the teeth usually occurs when individuals age, during which there can be many other health issues affecting it.

Severe tooth decay or gum disease

Decay and gum diseases affect oral health significantly and may even lead to loss of natural teeth. In this case, a full or partial denture is used to replace the teeth, including those affected by tooth decay or gum disease.

Accidental Injuries

Injuries from sporting accidents, automobile accidents, or any other unexpected dental emergency may lead to the loss of multiple teeth. If such teeth are extracted, and a denture is placed immediately, the chances of further decay or loss of more teeth will be reduced.

What Happens During Dentures Procedure?

A dentist first evaluates your oral conditions and assesses how many natural teeth would need to be replaced. If there's space available in the jawbone, we may suggest placing dental implants to support the dentures. After this, a digital mold of the lower or upper jaw will be created using digital scans and x-rays. A dental lab will then use this impression to create a denture that perfectly matches your oral contour. We will place it in your mouth and check for a suitable fit, and make the necessary changes if required to provide you with perfect restorations.

Types of Dentures

Conventional Dentures

Conventional or complete dentures are fabricated to replace all the teeth in the mouth. They are fabricated using acrylic and dental-grade ceramic, which mimic the appearance of the gums and natural teeth, respectively.

Immediate or same-day dentures

Immediate dentures will be provided by the dentist on the day your existing teeth are extracted. The dentures will be fabricated in advance by taking digital impressions of your teeth, and the wounds of the extracted teeth will be allowed to heal under the dentures.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures restore only a selected set of teeth in your mouth. They are removable - just like conventional dentures, and are backed by a strong metal framework to prevent any changes in contour or fit.
